Why you should consider a career in Manufacturing

There are many reasons to consider a career in Manufacturing – and October is the perfect time to explore your options because October is Manufacturing Month in Minnesota! 

Manufacturing jobs pay well. In fact, average annual wages for workers in Manufacturing in Minnesota are $74,630, 10% higher than across all industries in Minnesota. Plus, many Manufacturing positions offer opportunities for advancement on a promising career path.  

Many manufacturing jobs can be started with a high school diploma and employer-provided on-the-job training. That said, the Manufacturing industry needs people with all levels of education, from a high school diploma or equivalent to advance degrees in science, technology, math or engineering.   

There are many current and future Manufacturing employment opportunities in Minnesota. Manufacturing is also projected to add just over 5,000 jobs in the next year, a steady 1.6% increase, according to projections just released last week. This follows two years of rapid growth, including a gain of 17,000 jobs from the second quarter of 2021 to the second quarter of 2022 as employers surpassed pre-pandemic employment levels. If growth occurs as forecasted, Manufacturing employment would be at its highest level in the state since 2008, right before the Great Recession, by second quarter of 2023. Long term projections show ad additional 75,000 manufacturing jobs through 2030. 

Working in Manufacturing may be different than what you imagine. Manufacturing is important work in a safe, clean, high-tech environment. Some Manufacturing facilities are among the most state-of-the-art and sanitary environments you can find in a workplace. High-tech machinery and stringent workplace standards are designed to protect worker safety and well-being. Many Manufacturing jobs are on the cutting edge – utilizing robotics and automation, artificial intelligence and 3D printing in production of their products.
