Tessa shared with CareerForce why she's glad she followed her heart to a Caring Career:

What do you find rewarding about your work in a Caring Career?

I have been working for 14 years at Covenant Ability Network in Lino Lakes as a DSP (Direct Support Professional). I love my residence and coworkers. I enjoy helping my clients reach their every daily goals to make them more independent so they can live their best lives.

How do you see this work as benefiting you on your future career path?

I have moved up from a DSP I and have been steadily getting promoted to where now I am now a lead supervisor or DSP III. I love doing what I do and plan to continue doing it because it is very rewarding.

What would you say to other people considering a Caring Career?

The clients will enrich your life greatly. You get to pick up on what they like and enjoy so you can do those things with them so they can have fun. This prevents them from being homesick from being apart from their parents, guardians or other loved ones and you become like their family. Treat them like family because that is how I would like people to treat someone with a disability who is my family member.
