Enrollment for the year-long program has passed, but interested applicants are encouraged to call Sarah Shapiro for more information on upcoming trainings.
AMR is a partnership between Roseville Adult Learning Center and the Karen Organization of Minnesota. Now in its 4th year, AMR focuses on preparing students for a registered apprenticeship in the trades.
Our 8-month program gives people the chance to earn a high school diploma from Roseville Area Schools. The diploma is competency-based, which means the participants show their knowledge through reflection writing and demonstrating ability instead of graded tests.
AMR includes classroom teaching, hands-on training where students learn basic hand and power tools, and visits to union training centers and construction sites. The class is tailored for people who are not native English speakers. RALC and KOM also offer a condensed AMR class in the summer that does not offer a diploma. Once participants finish the class, the AMR career counselor will work with them to find a job in the trades, where they can make a living wage (often starting at $20-22 with a raise every 6 months) without college debt.
Open to people 18 and up who are interested in getting a job in the trades and committed to coming to class every day.
Must have at least 5th grade reading level in English and reliable transportation and live in the Twin Cities at the start of class. This class is tailored for people who speak English as a foreign language.
