CareerForce has a presence in the Edina branch of the Hennepin County Library, like it does at more than 50 libraries around the state. The Edina Library shares space with the Edina Senior Center – and that proximity has sparked interest among local residents in job search over age 50.
DEED CareerForce staff member Laurie Trach was instrumental in building the partnership with the Edina Library, starting in June of this year. Laurie is at the Edina Library twice a month sharing CareerForce resources and helping people with job search activities. Laurie learned the library and the senior center were interested in CareerForce presenting a “Job Search over 50” workshop for their patrons. Fellow DEED CareerForce staff member Robin Johnson led the workshop for 12 participants in October. Feedback from participants included comments that they were glad that Robin “didn’t talk down” to them – and many participants planned to follow up with individual consultation sessions to continue their job search.
