Sometimes the perfect job is helping others find and keep employment! That's what Lynda does every day as an employment support professional. These professionals engage in a variety of work focused on helping people with disabilities find and keep employment. Lynda shared this information about her rewarding work with CareerForce.

What do you?

I work as a Lead Career Counselor at Avivo (a CareerForce partner). My role is to provide job supports to individuals with disabilities who are competitively employed in the Greater Twin Cities area. I have experience providing job coaching services, Staying On the Job services, job site accommodations assessments, independent living assessments, Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) and Extended Employment services.

What do you like most about your work?

I like to be creative in solving work-related challenges. I enjoy working as a team with consumers to learn about barriers to employment and to incorporate practical solutions. Working with employers, providing community resources, job counseling and setting realistic goals seem to work best. If a job does not work out for an individual, it is not a failure but a learning experience for all.

What do you tell others who are considering this kind of work?

This is a great career for anyone who enjoys working with people. You can help individuals improve their confidence and overcome barriers. Helping workers achieve success, realize a sense of purpose, learn self reliance and find a place in this world is genuinely satisfying.
