Mike had worked for several years as a Technical Project Manager, leading successful projects in the Information Technology (IT) field. He had lots of hands-on experience, but no formal training or certification in project management. Due to major restructuring at the company he worked at in 2024, Mike was laid off.  Mike found himself unemployed without any current certifications that could give him a competitive edge in the job market.

Mike learned about the Dislocated Worker program at CareerForce in Blaine, applied and was assigned to a Senior Career Counselor with Leading CareerForce Partner Anoka County Job Training Center. Mike and his counselor worked together to develop an employment plan that would include training to get him noticed by employers who desire candidates that have a certification and/or training in Project Management.

After investigating different training programs, Mike enrolled in one where he could earn a nationally-recognized project management professional certification and he successfully earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certifications.

Less than one month after completing the training, Mike was offered a high-level position at a reputable Minnesota organization as an IT Advanced Project Manager!

Mike sent an email to his Senior Career Counselor saying, “Thank you again for everything you've done for me through this!”

Mike’s Senior Career Counselor and the Anoka County Job Training Center were happy to support him through this journey but reminded him that it was his commitment to hard work and his determination that paid off in the end.

Way to go, Mike!
