Northeast Minnesota Workforce Development Board

The Northeast Minnesota Workforce Development Board is one Minnesota’s 16 local workforce boards, designated under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014.  The Board is comprised of a majority business representatives, as well workforce, education and training, government, economic, and community stakeholders.  We are dedicated to quality workforce development endeavors throughout northeastern Minnesota. The Board guides the design of local workforce development throughout the counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis, including oversight of the operation of CareerForce locations.

The Northeast Minnesota Workforce Development Board is a leader in CareerForce, Minnesota’s unified workforce system.  Our priorities include sector initiatives in healthcare and the skilled trades. This includes activities to increase awareness of these occupations and working with industry employers to connect them to information and resources to find and retain a productive labor force. Other priorities include enhancing the cultural competency of our workforce program staff and ensuring that our locations are welcoming and inviting to all patrons. Additionally, the Northeast Minnesota Workforce Development Board is engaged in efforts to attract talent to this beautiful region of the state as well as providing career guidance and exploration services to area schools.
