The Drive for 5 initiative prepares people for high-demand jobs on a career path to family-sustaining employment. Over the coming months, CareerForce will be sharing stories from throughout the state about Minnesotans who have completed Drive for 5 funded training and are finding employment with the new skills and certification they earned.
Today, we’re highlighting Robert, who earned his Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) thanks to his hard work and determination – and the dedicated support of staff at Leading CareerForce Partner Rural Minnesota Concentrated Employment Program (RMCEP).
Now Robert is using his new credentials at a great job! Last week he was hired under an On-the-Job Training (OJT) contract at Lakes Gas in Royalton, Minnesota as a propane delivery driver making $27.25 an hour. Once he completes 200 OJT hours, he will have earned ALL the potential incentives through RMCEP for the Drive for Five program, totaling $500!
Robert credits the support he received at RMCEP for helping him achieve success.
“I had never gone to Rural Minnesota CEP before, but from the moment I walked in the door, the staff were very nice, helpful and easy to work with,” said Robert. “I could never have done this without the help and encouragement of the staff at RMCEP.”
