Considering a career in construction, but need help to get started? You may have a unique opportunity to prepare for a good-paying career in the highway construction industry for FREE if you qualify. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) provide pre-apprentice highway construction training and job placement as an apprentice following training for qualified Minnesotans.

“I have witnessed firsthand the difference this training makes in people’s lives,” said Sylvia Garcia, MnDOT-DEED Program Coordinator. “This training is so life changing because it prepares people to start down the path of becoming a union apprentice, with support from industry experts every step of the way. When people complete their union apprenticeship, they have marketable skills for family-sustaining employment, with great pay and benefits.”

This year, MnDOT and DEED are offering a 240-hour, 6-week cement mason training course includes a combination of curriculum-based classroom instruction, hands-on use of tools and equipment, videos and engagement with industry experts. The training dates are April 14 through May 23, 2025.
