Resources to help employers fulfill I-WE criteria

Resources for each of the four criteria for I-WE certification are outlined below. Because every organization and every community is different, these criteria are broad. Recommended resources and methods for meeting each of the four criteria and receiving the I-WE designation are outlined below.

Express your Commitment

Express your organization's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in your stated mission, values and/or policies.

Assess your Organization

Assess how your organization's policies and culture support or hinder diversity, equity and inclusion. Determine what areas your organization needs to work on to meet your diversity, equity and inclusion goals.

Provide DEI Training and Education

Find the right diversity, equity and inclusion training and education for both staff and leadership. There are many training options so you can find the right training for your organization and your community. However note that training is not one and done. As Minnesota Compass notes: "Be aware that bias and cultural competence training alone is not sufficient....Increase the effectiveness of trainings by covering a variety of topics, focusing on self-efficacy and empowerment, integrating interactive components, and ensuring sufficient duration and intensity to yield positive outcomes. Utilize training as one component of a larger approach to shifting attitudes and behavior in the workplace to be more inclusive and equitable, which could include multiple training sessions interwoven with changes in policies and practices."
