Increasing under-represented talent pools in manufacturing

The Diversity in Manufacturing Initiative is a collaboration of employers, industry associations, educators, workforce partners, and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) aimed at increasing the number of BIPOC and other marginalized communities in the manufacturing industry.

DiMi Mission: To increase talent diversification in manufacturing, creating a more inclusive and equitable industry. 

The goal of the Diversity in Manufacturing Initiative is to be a resource suggested by employers, for employers and stakeholders, providing best practices for outreach and utilized by employers regardless of company size or years of existence.

Minnesota's manufacturing sector is one of the biggest and most important industries in our state's diverse economy, thanks to our state's skilled labor force and innovative manufacturing companies throughout the state. The manufacturing sector in Minnesota is characterized by its significant contributions to the economy, extensive export activity, and robust employment opportunities. With a strong presence of diverse manufacturing companies, Minnesota is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory, driven by innovation and a skilled labor force. Addressing the projected workforce demands will be key in maintaining this momentum and ensuring the sector's vitality in the coming years. There is a big demand for people to work in manufacturing positions in Minnesota, now and into the future: Minnesota expects more than 93,000 job openings for manufacturing production positions through 2032.
